Above all, it is a continuum of all the gardens to ensure the structure and the environment of the city. Le Corbusier, himself designed this part of the scene. Rock Garden: Rock Garden represents the wonderful artwork made from industrial and urban waste, which symbolizes a model of creativity and invention. It is located in Sector 1 between Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake. The whole credit for its layout and establishment goes to Nek Chand, who used to be a road Inspector in the Engineering Department of Chandigarh. It has been established in the form of an uncovered outsized hall and the sculptures of garden house are made by utilizing a mixture of different thrown-away and waste materials like frames, splash-guards, forks, play marbles, ceramic ware, auto parts, wrecked bangles etc. To see this unique creation, people from different parts of the world approach this beautiful city.

Sukhna Lake: A manmade lake, situated in sector 1, is a beautiful lake that dwells in the foothills of Shivalik range. Sukhna Lake was landscaped in 1958 and it was created by damming up the Sukhna Choe that is a regular stream running down from the Shivalik hills. The local residents of Chandigarh come to this place to enjoy the cool breeze during their morning and evening walks. Moreover, this lake is also one of the fabulous picnic spots and an appropriate place for pursuing water sport activities like boating, water skiing and so on.

Open Hand Monument: Chandigarh’s official emblem, Open hand, is one of the heartiest memorials in the city. Again designed by Le Corbusier, it is located in sector 1 in the Capitol Complex. This monument has been designed in the form of a huge hand made from sheets of metallic element that revolves like a weathervane, showing the direction of wind. The hand weighs around 50 tonnes and it is 14 metres long. Open hand conveys the social message of unity and peace which means “open to give and open to receive”.

Travelling to Chandigarh:

By Air: The airport is located at a distance of 11km from the city centre, serviced by all chief domestic airlines like Jet Airways, Air India and flies over to main cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.

By Rail: The railway station of Chandigarh is only 8kms away and the extensive network links to all corners of the country. The superfast trains that run across the country like Shatabdi Express and the Himalayan Queen, links Chandigarh with other major cities.

By Road: A good road network linking to its adjoining states i.e. Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh through luxury, deluxe and semi deluxe buses, which runs from Chandigarh to Delhi, Shimla, Amritsar, Dehradun, Jaipur etc.
